The Somebody
"I need to be special. I need to be sure."
The desert

A dark hero for the inner world
He doesn't kill people. He kills who they think they are.
A hooded being walks between realms, hunting the one enemy nobody else can see: the false self. The fear you inherited. The job title you mistook for your soul. The voice in your head that sounds like you, and isn't.
He is dark to look at and kind in purpose. He saves people from themselves.
"Sometimes part of us has to die for a new part of us to live."

CONTRACT 00 · THE DESERT
Seven days before the Burn in the Nevada desert, a man with no ticket, no camp and no ride asked his body one question. It said go.
A ticket appeared. The cloak arrived the day before his flight. A friend's RV had one seat left.
In a city of dust where billionaires and drifters dress the same, the cloak opened every door, and he liked being seen. Then the great effigy burned, and in the flames he saw the last thing standing between him and his life. Himself.
At dawn, a hooded figure walked out of the dust.

Every contract ends the same way. Seven beats. One choice that is always yours.

Time slows. Dust hangs in the air. A waterfall stops mid-fall.
He is already there, as if he always was.
One sentence, felt not heard, that names what has been running your life.
You see it wearing your face. You see the cord in your own chest.
Do you want to keep feeding it?
An eight-pointed star in the air. A blade of blue light.
The first full breath in years. The weight lifts.
That was never you.
Feed a false belief long enough and it becomes a Mimic: a parasite that wears your face and speaks in your voice. It sounds like you. It isn't.
